Why do You Wear Sunglasses When Climbing?
Mountaineers are well equipped, which is not only a symbol of professionalism, but also for safety. In all their equipment, they will have a pair of sunglasses. It's not for being cool. It's mainly to protect your eyes.
We all know that the air in the mountains is very thin. At an altitude of 8000 meters, the air is only about one third of the ground, and there is little dust. The radiation of sunlight is particularly strong, and ultraviolet and infrared rays also increase. The eye is a sensitive photosensitive organ of the human body. Strong ultraviolet and infrared radiation on the eye will cause radiation-induced eye damage. Our eyes may have severe foreign body sensation, tingling, photophobia, tears and inability to open their eyes. In such an environment, if you don't wear sunglasses, your eyes may not be able to bear it!
Another important reason for wearing sunglasses when climbing is that the mountains that are generally more than 5000 meters high have accumulated a thousand years of snow. White things have a strong ability to reflect light. On an unshielded snow peak, white snow will reflect strong sunlight into your eyes. If you don't wear sunglasses, you may be snow blind. If you have blurred vision on high mountains, can you afford to hurt!
So mountaineers, in order to protect their eyes, wear a pair of special sunglasses, which are more safe and functional. Now you know why mountaineers wear sunglasses.
