What's the best way to clean your lenses

There's nothing worse than a distracting smudge printed down the middle of your glasses lens. Or when your glasses feel dirty, rubbing them with your shirt may temporarily remove the smudge, but in the long run it actually leaves a more distracting damage that can't be wiped away.

Whether you are a beginner who has just started wearing glasses or you have worn glasses your whole life, you still find yourself wondering about the secrets to keeping your glasses clean and flawless without any smudges, streaks or scratches!

1. Start by rinsing your glasses with warm water. Do not use hot water as it can shorten the life of certain coated lenses.

2. Pick a simple kitchen dish soap. Put a small drop of dish soap on your fingertips. Gently rub both sides of the lenses and nose pads. If you are looking for the best way to clean your glasses at home, then dish soap is the way to go. Even the American Optometric Association recommends it.

When using the dish soap method, you should not use citric acid-based detergents as it can damage the lenses. You should also avoid kitchen soaps that contain lotions. Instead, use a very simple basic kitchen sink soap.

Another way to use a more delicate dishwashing method is to soak your glasses in a sink full of warm water with a large dollop of dish soap in it. Shake them around, rinse under warm water, and everything will look clearer!
3. Rinse with warm water and gently wipe away any remaining drops with a clean microfiber cloth. Use a gentle touch. Microfiber cloths don't leave lint, so your glasses should be perfectly clean.

4. Check the frame and repeat the steps until the lenses are completely spotless. If there are still smudges and all the oils that weren't cleaned by the dish soap, then it's time to repeat the steps. Run them in warm water, add dishwashing liquid, and gently massage them one more time!

5. For small smudges on your glasses from the day, use a microfiber cloth for a dry touch-up. Swipe only from the arm to the nose bridge. In order to remove grease from your glasses you swipe in the right direction. Always start your glasses brushing at the arm of the glasses (temple) and work towards the bridge of the nose. The center edge of the glasses frame and the bridge of the nose (as well as the nose pads, if you have them) should be reserved for the last swipe. This is because most of the oils from your face will accumulate on the bridge and nose of the frame. These parts have "skin contact residue" that tends to remain on the cloth. If you start brushing from the nose, you will get all the oils and grease on the lenses, which will give you more cleaning work to take care of.

6. Use jewelry polish safely on your frames often to refresh the look.

Performing this step only once in a blue moon will keep you looking nice, clean, and pristine glasses. If you polish plastic glasses too often, they will eventually damage them. If the glasses have a special finish, don't polish them too often because it will damage their special finish.

7. Keep them cleaner longer: Don't leave your frames over the sink or on your dresser.

Leaving your glasses over the sink or on your dresser, hairspray and perfume or powder can fly in the air, making residue build up quickly. Avoiding this will keep your frames cleaner longer.

Dish soap is one of the best and safest ways to clean glasses. Dish soap works well on metal and acetate plastic frames, but not on wood frames.
