What Kind of People Can’t Wear Contact Lens ?
Contact lenses are small lenses worn directly on the corneal surface of the eyeball. Because contact lens lenses are made of polymer synthetic materials and directly contact the cornea of the eyeball, no matter it is hard lens or soft lens, it may cause eye tissue allergy to lens materials, fatigue, congestion and secretion increase, etc. So not everyone is suitable to wear contact lens. It requires wearer’s eyes have good conditions, such as healthy cornea, normal tear secretion function and normal eyelid function.
There are several situations in which people can’t wear contact lens:
1. Ocular trauma; nystagmus, unable to fix the eyes; acute or subacute infection of external eyes (including severe trachoma, conjunctivitis, dacryocystitis, etc); weakened corneal sensation; abnormal tear secretion; eye allergies; diseases with great influence on the eyes.
2. People who live or work in poor sanitary conditions or dusty environments for a long time are not suitable to wear contact lens.
3. Obvious degenerative changes will occur in the eye tissue after the age of 40. The resistance of the part of eyes is reduced, especially the ability of the eyeball to withstand hypoxia. At this time, if you wear a thin layer of lens on the surface of the eyeball, it will cause anoxia of the eyeball, which will easily lead to complications such as corneal infection, ulcer.
4. If elementary or middle school students wear contact lens prematurely or continuously for a long time, it will cause some side effects such as corneal hypoxia, physiological metabolic disorders. If lens is not cleaned and disinfected strictly, secondary infections will occur; the tortuous path of the lens which is not compatible with the cornea will also cause corneal wear and epithelial shedding.
5. Women are not suitable to wear contact lens during menstruation and pregnancy. During of menstruation and a few days before menstruation, women’s intraocular pressure is often higher than usual, and eyeballs are more easily congested, especially for women with dysmenorrhea. At this time, if you wear contact lenses, it will cause bad effects on the eyeballs. During pregnancy, endocrine function will change, barrier function of the corneal tissue and secretion of tears will decrease, which will easily cause discomfort.
6. People with a cold and fever should not wear contact lenses. When people have a fever, local resistance of the eyes and secretion of tears will be reduced, a large number of bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis multiply and grow, and the metabolites of bacteria deposited between the cornea and the lens will reduce the oxygen permeability of contact lenses, which will interfere with the normal metabolism of the cornea, and then cause bacterial corneal ulcer.
7. Even if you don’t have those problems above, when the eyes appear shy(corneal abrasion caused by improper wearing method), dazzling(caused by corneal scratches or lenses are too tight), tearing, cloudiness (too tight lens causing corneal edema) and burning sensation(occurs when wearing glasses, it’s caused by dusty and scratched lens; when removing the lenses, it’s caused by improperly removing methods and injure the cornea) after wearing contact lens, you should immediately stop and finding out the causes.
