Should We Wear Glasses All The Time?

Some people wearing glasses always have a question: should we wear glasses all the time?

Combined with general judgment criteria and visual function parameters, we can probably know from the following aspects whether glasses need to be worn frequently or not.

1. Vision and Degree

In the past, we would say that if children’s eyesight is not low, and degree is below 200 degrees, then you can wear it when you can see far and can't see clearly, and you don't need to wear it when you look closer.

However, judging from the current situation, when a child has started myopia, it may have been accompanied by problems in visual function and eye position. Therefore, it is not specific enough to decide whether glasses need to be worn frequently or not in terms of vision and power. It’s better to make a decision in conjunction with the inspection of visual functions to be more accurate

2. Adjustment Ability

After the refractive examination is over, we can check adjustment ability through the comprehensive optometometer.

You have to wear it if you have poor adjustment ability. Why do you have poor adjustment? It is related to overuse of your eyes and also related to your nearsightedness without glasses before. All the eyes need to adjust at certain moments, if you have myopia, when you look near, you don’t adjust eyes at the same time, your adjustment ability will be lazy, and naturally it will be poor. If you put on glasses, you are forced eyes to start working again.

If adjustment ability is excessive, we need to distinguish whether the problem is primary or secondary. If the over-adjustment leads to the excessive adjustment and the intraocular oblique, we can use the add prescription. If the under-aggregation leads to the excessive adjustment, it’s better solve the collection problem through training, and the adjustment aspect will also be solved. So wearing glasses is necessary.

3. Eye Position Check

Before optometry, we can use the penlight to make eye position covering experiments on the spectacles to observe whether the patient has an abnormality in the eye position.

If patient's eyes are moving from the outside to the inside, they have exophoria.

If the child’s eyeballs are moving from the inside to the outside, it means that the child has an Intraocular oblique.

Slight eye movement is within the normal range, we consider it to be an upright position.

4. AC/A

AC/A is a very important indicator of wearing glasses, which directly reflects the relationship between adjustment and collection.

If the patient's indicators are normal, it is recommended to wear glasses normally, especially teenagers and children, who need to wear them often.

If the patient's index is too low, it is also recommended that foot correction glasses are required for both near and far distances.

For patients with high AC/A, low correction and add prescription can be considered. If patients are with low power and better vision, they don't need to wear glasses at close distance.
