How long can a pair of glasses last?

Date:2022.01.21   Views:1281

As we all know, cosmetics will expire if they are not used for a long time. The food we eat in our daily life, daily necessities, etc. have a shelf life. So do the glasses we wear all day have an expiration date?

Of course the answer is: yes!

In the daily optometry process, we will find that after some children have finished fitting a new pair of glasses, it takes a year or more before they come to optometry again. As a result, many vision problems occur, and some people even have Eye pain, visual fatigue and other problems.

So what are the dangers of "expired" glasses?

●Degree change

Children and adolescents are in the growth and development stage, which is the peak period of eye use, and the degree changes rapidly. Due to long-term close eye use, myopia is easy to deepen.

Children and adolescents need to be reviewed every 3 months or half a year. If the glasses are no longer suitable for children, they should be replaced in time.

●Anisometropia

In the case of anisometropia, some people feel that they can see clearly without changing their glasses for one or two years, but in fact, one eye has normal vision and the other eye is already very poor. Binocular vision cannot be felt. If you wear it all the time, the gap between the eyesight will become larger and larger, which will eventually lead to eye discomfort or increase in degree.

● Lens wear

During the use of the lens, due to the lack of attention to protecting the glasses, such as accidentally scratching the glasses during exercise, these scratches and wear will cause the lens to scatter and diffract, which will affect the corrective effect of the lens.

Glasses deformation

It is often seen that many people wear deformed glasses. The glasses are worn high on the left and low on the right, and some will fall under the nose like reading glasses. Such wearing methods are all wrong. Consistent angle, otherwise the target will not be seen clearly, and the normal correction effect will not be achieved.

Therefore, most people think that as long as the glasses are worn clearly and the glasses are not damaged, they can wear them all the time, and they have not checked their eyes after wearing a pair of glasses for a year or two. In fact, these are wrong practices.

How often should we have our eyes checked?

Zhou Chao, a member of the Medical Technician Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, a national first-level (senior) optometrist, and director of the Optometry Center of Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University (Aier Eye Hospital Group Hubei General Hospital) reminds everyone:

Adolescents should have their vision checked every six months. If there is a major change in the degree, such as an increase of more than 75 degrees, or the glasses are severely worn, they should change the glasses.

Adults who do not use their eyes regularly should have their eyesight checked once a year and eyeglasses checked for damage.

Elderly people should have regular eye examinations due to a series of eye diseases such as vertigo, cataract and glaucoma.
