Beijing Winter Paralympics

On March 4, the Beijing Winter Paralympics officially opened, which will be the 13th Winter Paralympic Games in history. After the end of the Second World War, some disabled soldiers tried to participate in skiing again, and disabled winter sports gradually emerged in some parts of the world. Up to now, more than 40 countries and regions around the world have established disabled winter sports organizations. . From Ornskoldsvik, Sweden in 1976 to Beijing in 2022, more and more disabled athletes have shown the world their moments of courage and self-transcendence through the Winter Paralympics. As the concept of solidarity, friendship, courage and honest competition among people from all over the world embodied in the Winter Paralympics has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, the number of participating countries, regions and the number of participating athletes has been increasing year by year. increasing day by day.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, winter sports for the disabled in my country have developed rapidly. Before that, among the six major events established in the Winter Paralympics, my country only carried out two major events, Paralympic cross-country skiing and wheelchair curling, with only 40 to 50 athletes. Through hard work, there are currently more than 1,000 disabled people engaged in ice and snow sports across the country, and the Winter Paralympic events involved have expanded from the original two to six, achieving full coverage of all the Winter Paralympic events.
The Chinese sports delegation for the Beijing Winter Paralympics was established a few days ago, and a huge delegation of 96 athletes will be sent to participate. They will compete in 6 major events and 73 minor events, with a coverage rate of 93%.

The upcoming 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics will have 6 major events and 78 minor events.
